Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Development of the ancient settlement of Akhsikent in Namangan Region as one of Uzbekistan's largest tourist destinations is continuing. The project is being implemented at the initiative of the country's president and combines the preservation of historical heritage with the creation of modern tourism infrastructure.
Large-scale construction work at the archaeological site began in June 2023. Since then, several projects have been completed, while work continues on the creation of nine open-air museums across the 132.4-hectare site. Construction of the symbolic entrance gate and fortress wall has already been completed.
At the same time, archaeological research is continuing under the supervision of Abdulkhamid Anorboyev, Head of Department at the National Centre of Archaeology.
According to Anvar Ikrom, head of the archaeological park, activities promoting Akhsikent have been organised in 27 countries in recent years.
Botirjon Nuriddinov, Deputy Hokim of Namangan Region, reviewed the progress of the project.
According to the organisers, the parallel development of tourism infrastructure and archaeological research is intended to preserve the site's historical and cultural heritage while unlocking the tourism potential of the region.
