Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Tanzila Narbaeva, Chair of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, met Natalya Kochanova, Chair of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, who arrived in Uzbekistan to take part in the fourth Uzbek-Belarusian Interparliamentary Forum.
The two sides discussed prospects for further developing interparliamentary dialogue and expanding engagement between the legislatures of the two countries.
Particular attention was paid to regular exchanges of experience and more active contacts between parliamentary committees, as well as the work of interparliamentary cooperation groups. The sides noted the role of parliaments in implementing agreements reached at the highest level.
A separate part of the talks focused on trade and economic cooperation. The sides stressed the need to expand engagement and implement joint projects in agriculture, machine building, pharmaceuticals, electrical engineering, textiles and other industries.
The development of direct contacts between the business communities of the two countries was identified as an important area of cooperation. In this context, the sides noted the role of parliamentary diplomacy in supporting further growth in mutual trade and creating favorable conditions for joint business initiatives.
The sides also exchanged views on organized labor migration and the employment of citizens.
In particular, they discussed ensuring lawful working conditions, as well as upholding and guaranteeing citizens' labor, medical and social rights.
Considerable attention was given to developing cultural and humanitarian ties between Uzbekistan and Belarus. The sides stressed the importance of implementing joint projects in education, healthcare and tourism.
In particular, they discussed continuing to hold Days of Culture, rectors' forums and medical forums on a consistent basis, as well as implementing youth initiatives and projects aimed at expanding contacts between students of the two countries.
Support for entrepreneurship was another topic of the meeting. The sides noted the need to make more effective use of the potential of parliamentary diplomacy and to give practical effect to agreements reached at Uzbek-Belarusian women's business forums.
Following the meeting, the sides agreed to continue work on developing interparliamentary cooperation, strengthening interregional ties, supporting business initiatives and expanding engagement within international parliamentary organizations and platforms.
The talks marked another step in developing contacts between the parliaments of Uzbekistan and Belarus and advancing practical cooperation across a wide range of areas.
