Uzbekistan's pilgrimage tourism presented in Morocco
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A presentation of the tourism potential of Uzbekistan took place in the city of Casablanca within the framework of the "Umra Plus and Pilgrimage Tourism of Uzbekistan" international exhibition. The event was organized at the initiative of the Umra Pilgrimage Association of Uzbekistan with the support of the Committee for Tourism of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Representatives of leading Uzbek tour operators and specialists from the tourism industry participated in the exhibition.
The participants were presented with information regarding the historical and cultural heritage of the country, its holy places, contemporary tourist infrastructure, and the conditions created for receiving foreign pilgrims.
The primary goal of the event was to promote Uzbekistan on the international pilgrimage tourism market, increase the number of tourists from Morocco and other Arab countries, and establish new partnerships.
Within the framework of the exhibition, meetings were held with representatives of the Parliament of Morocco, the leadership of the relevant profile association, representatives of the tourism industry, and major tour operators. The parties discussed the development of pilgrimage tourism between the two countries, the expansion of tourist exchanges, the simplification of visa procedures, and the development of consular cooperation. Following the negotiations, a number of agreements were reached.
Representatives of the Moroccan tourism market expressed strong interest in the pilgrimage heritage and tourism opportunities of Uzbekistan. As a result, the parties signed several agreements aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation.
Special attention was paid to the development of the "Umra Plus" program, which provides for attracting pilgrims to Uzbekistan from Morocco and other countries who are performing pilgrimages to Mecca and Medina. This is expected to contribute to an increase in the number of foreign pilgrims visiting Samarkand, Bukhara, Termez, Tashkent, and other holy sites in the country.
Additionally, the next international exhibition within the framework of the "Umra Plus and Pilgrimage Tourism of Uzbekistan" project is planned to be held on 11 July 2026 and 12 July 2026 in Istanbul.
