Uzbekistan to establish a preparatory system for Ivy League admissions

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 27 March, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on reforms aimed at supporting talented youth.

Uzbekistan has been consistently creating conditions for unlocking the intellectual potential of young people. The country has already established 14 Presidential Schools, 185 specialized institutions, and 9 creative education centers. Their teaching and assessment methods have been introduced in 1,500 public schools. Additionally, the New Uzbekistan University was founded to provide gifted graduates with access to world-class education. However, beyond offering quality education, it is essential to help talented students gain admission to leading foreign universities.

During his February meeting with youth, President Mirziyoyev put forward several initiatives to address this issue. The presentation focused on the organizational and practical aspects of their implementation.

Starting in September, an international school will be launched, initially enrolling 60 of the most gifted eighth-grade graduates. The curriculum, based on international standards, will consist of three key components: core subjects, specialized disciplines, and leadership and social engagement courses. The academic year will follow a three-trimester format and last 11 months.

Another major initiative is the launch of a National Program for Preparing Youth for Ivy League Admissions. This six-stage program will enroll 3,000 students in its first year. A total of 208 mentors from Presidential and specialized schools will conduct training. The preparation will take place in three-week intensive courses at the Renaissance Educational Center. Upon completion, the top 40 students will be granted internships at Ivy League universities.

Special attention is also being given to the employment of graduates from foreign universities. To support this, a "Golden Talent Fund Community" will be established as a unified platform for Uzbekistan’s most talented youth. The project will offer benefits, grants, startup programs, and other career development opportunities. Additionally, an annual community forum will be held on 25 May, where participants will discuss education reforms, promising programs, and international best practices.

President Mirziyoyev supported these initiatives, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive and systematic approach to youth development.

Currently, 750 Uzbek students are studying abroad under the El-Yurt Umidi Foundation. The President instructed officials to expand these opportunities and enhance the foundation’s effectiveness.
