China and Uzbekistan Expand AI Training Program for Educators

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The first session of a joint artificial intelligence training program for Uzbek educators concluded in Guangzhou on 21 August 2026, bringing together more than 50 primary and secondary school teachers for a week-long course, China Daily reported.

The initiative was co-organized by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) and New Uzbekistan University. A second cohort will provide specialized AI training for university instructors.

Participants studied practical applications of artificial intelligence in classroom instruction, scientific and methodological research, and school administration. The program aimed to equip educators with systematic, hands-on tools to integrate AI technology into their professional routines.

The core curriculum was based on an AI literacy competency course created by a team led by Professor Chen Lei, Dean of the Information Hub at HKUST (Guangzhou). The course content was customized specifically for Uzbek educators to address primary and secondary school teaching environments.

The training program represents the latest operational milestone following a memorandum of understanding signed between the institutions after a visit by HKUST (Guangzhou) President Lionel Ni to New Uzbekistan University. Broader bilateral cooperation between the two universities continues to expand across student exchanges, advanced talent development, and strategic academic consultations.
