Tashkent Nears Completion of 1.2 km BRT Bus Lane

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Construction of a 1.2-kilometer dedicated bus rapid transit (BRT) lane is entering its final phase on Shakhrisabz Street in Tashkent, according to the Tashkent Traffic Management Center. Construction and renovation works along the section are scheduled for completion by 31 August 2026, after which the road will reopen to traffic.

As part of the project, a dedicated public transport lane is being built, physically separated from the main roadway by concrete curbs. High-capacity buses will operate along the corridor, requiring a redesigned road base capable of withstanding heavy, continuous traffic loads.

Workers are excavating soil to a depth of over two meters while addressing subgrade stability and moisture issues. Geotextile materials are being applied to reinforce the foundation and protect upper structural layers from water infiltration.

The reinforced design aims to prevent water accumulation beneath the asphalt, minimize soil displacement and settling risks, and support the regular passage of heavy buses to reduce pavement deformation over time.

Engineering specifications for the roadbed account for the weight and technical characteristics of buses operating in Tashkent, expected daily trip frequencies, and continuous load factors along the route.

The 1.2-kilometer segment will feature five BRT-compliant bus stops. Physical barriers separating the bus lane from general traffic lanes are designed to prevent buses from swerving into general traffic and stop unauthorized vehicles from entering the public transport corridor.

Crews are currently completing subgrade reinforcement and BRT infrastructure installation along Shakhrisabz Street.

The segment represents the first phase of the BRT project on Shakhrisabz Street, with subsequent phases planned to extend the dedicated bus corridor further.
