Tashkent Considers Metro Park-and-Ride Lots at Two Stations
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Parking lots may be established near Tashkent Metro stations located close to the Tashkent region to serve commuting passengers. Specialists are currently working with the Tashkent city administration to identify suitable sites, Yuldash Yusupov, deputy head of Tashkent Metro JSC, said in an interview with Kun.uz.
The project aims to create facilities allowing residents and visitors to leave their personal vehicles near metro stations and transfer to the subway network. According to Yusupov, the initiative will enable drivers to park safely and reach their workplaces on time.
Additionally, using the metro instead of driving across the capital is intended to reduce household fuel expenditures, encouraging commuters to combine private car trips with public transit.
Initial locations under consideration include areas near the Olmazor station on the Chilanzar line and the Turkiston station on the Yunusabad line. Specialists are identifying appropriate plots that can subsequently be integrated into the respective metro lines.
Passengers who leave their cars in the planned lots and transfer to the metro may also receive travel incentives.
"If our citizens, that is, passengers, leave their car in the parking lot and go down into the metro, they will be offered various types of benefits, or as people say, discounts, to make travel on the metro cheaper," Yusupov said.
Work on organizing the parking infrastructure is ongoing in coordination with the Tashkent city administration.
