Navoi Region Judge Aziza Mirzaeva Killed in Car Crash
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Aziza Mirzaeva, chairwoman of the Tamdy District Criminal Court in Navoi region, died in a traffic accident on the Zarafshan-Tomdi road around noon on 15 August 2026, UzDaily.uz reported, citing Kun.uz.
According to preliminary data, the 39-year-old judge was driving a Cobalt passenger car from Zarafshan to the Tomdi district when she lost control of the vehicle, causing it to run off the road and overturn. Mirzaeva suffered severe injuries and died at the scene. She is survived by two children. She had been appointed to the chairmanship of the Tamdy District Criminal Court for a initial five-year judicial term in December 2024.
Following news of her death, reports circulated online claiming that the Supreme Court leadership had scheduled a video conference meeting requiring court heads to be present in their offices on Saturday, 15 August 2026. Human rights activist Abdurakhmon Tashanov stated that municipal and district court leaders were expected to participate from their workplaces.
The Supreme Court of Uzbekistan denied these claims, stating that no meetings were scheduled or held for judicial leaders on Saturday, nor were court heads instructed to report to work on a weekend. The court urged the public to refrain from premature conclusions regarding the cause of the accident or the purpose of Mirzaeva's trip, noting that authorized agencies will provide a formal legal assessment following an official investigation into the crash.
