Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Mobile network coverage in Uzbekistan has reached 99.5% of settlements, while 95.5% of international highways are covered by mobile Internet.
Digital Technologies Minister Sherzod Shermatov reported these figures in response to a parliamentary inquiry on the implementation of the target indicators under the Digital Uzbekistan 2030 strategy. The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis took note of the minister’s response.
According to Shermatov, more than 11,000 mobile base stations have been installed across the country since the beginning of 2026, bringing the total number to 110,500.
The capacity of backbone networks has also increased in recent years. Compared with 2020, capacity at the regional level has risen from 400 to 600 Gbps, while capacity at the district level has grown from 40 to 60 Gbps.
Work is continuing to connect social facilities to high-speed Internet. High-speed data networks currently cover 10,657 facilities in the public education system, 6,988 preschool educational organisations, 5,786 healthcare facilities, 8,935 citizens’ self-governance bodies, known as mahalla assemblies, and 5,250 support points of internal affairs agencies.
Fibre-optic infrastructure has also expanded significantly. The total length of fibre-optic communication lines has increased from 119,500 km in 2020 to 397,000 km currently. These networks cover 98.1% of the country’s settlements. The figure is expected to reach 98.2% by the end of 2026.
According to the minister, Uzbekistan has improved its position in the international mobile Internet speed ranking, rising from 133rd to 72nd place. In the fixed broadband speed ranking, the country moved from 112th to 73rd place, taking first place among Central Asian countries.
Another target under the strategy concerns the capacity of connections to international Internet networks. In 2020, this capacity stood at 1,200 Gbps. Following the implementation of investment projects and the diversification of external Internet channels, it has reached 4,400 Gbps. The figure is expected to increase to 4,500 Gbps by the end of 2026, with a target of 5,000 Gbps by 2030.
During the discussion, lawmakers put forward proposals to ensure an objective assessment of the work being carried out, address existing problems and achieve the targets of the Digital Uzbekistan 2030 strategy on time.
Following the meeting, the Legislative Chamber took note of the minister’s response to the parliamentary inquiry.
