Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said President Donald Trump could visit Central Asia, including Uzbekistan. Washington is interested in arranging such a trip and intends to discuss possible timing over the next year, Rubio said, while stressing that he could not comment on the president’s future schedule.
The secretary of state added that Trump himself had expressed a desire to visit the region if his schedule allowed.
According to Rubio, the United States and Uzbekistan are discussing a broad range of bilateral issues. He noted that relations between the two countries are based primarily on opportunities for cooperation rather than disagreements or conflicts.
Rubio also stressed that Uzbekistan is developing rapidly and creating new opportunities to improve living standards. American companies, he said, are interested in participating in this process.
“Nothing strengthens relations like shared prosperity. That is what we want to build our cooperation on,” the US secretary of state concluded.
