Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, together with heads of delegations from Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries, visited a national food festival organised in the Avaza National Tourist Zone in Turkmenistan.

Nine countries presented their culinary traditions at the event: Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

At Uzbekistan’s pavilion, guests were able to explore the regional diversity of the country’s national cuisine.

Various types of baked goods, confectionery and dried fruits were on display. Visitors were also introduced to Uzbekistan’s centuries-old bread-making traditions.

A separate part of the programme featured demonstrations of traditional cooking. Chefs showed how to prepare several types of samsa, as well as dishes from Khorezm, including shivit oshi and tuxum barak. Guests were also offered local flatbreads to taste.

The festival also featured various types of Uzbek plov and other national dishes.

In addition to the culinary exhibition, Uzbekistan’s pavilion showcased works by folk artisans.

Representatives from Rishtan, Bukhara, Margilan and Samarkand displayed traditional crafts and explained the techniques used to make them.

Performances of traditional music added to the festive atmosphere.

After viewing Uzbekistan’s exhibition, the heads of CIS delegations visited the pavilions of other countries, where they explored their national culinary traditions and elements of cultural heritage.
