Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis has adopted, in its third reading, a bill aimed at improving the industrial safety system and strengthening liability for violations. The document proposes amendments to the Criminal Code and the Code of Administrative Responsibility and has been submitted to the Senate.

The amendments are intended to ensure compliance with industrial safety requirements, prevent accidents and injuries at hazardous industrial facilities, and increase the accountability of those responsible for safety.

In particular, the bill proposes introducing stricter criminal liability for causing harm to citizens’ lives and health as a result of violations of industrial safety requirements.

Amendments to the Code of Administrative Responsibility would establish or strengthen the liability of officials for failing to comply with safety requirements, ensure state oversight at hazardous industrial facilities, and meet requirements for preparing to prevent accidents and eliminate their consequences.

The bill also provides for clarifying the responsibilities of authorised bodies in light of ongoing reforms in the sector.
