Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan is exploring opportunities to supply fruit and vegetable products from local producers to the US market through the Costco Wholesale retail network, the Committee for Food Safety said.
With the assistance of Uzbekistan’s representative office in the United States, negotiations are underway with Costco Wholesale to discuss supplies of products grown and produced in Uzbekistan.
To enter the US market, companies must be registered with the FDA, hold international certificates and ensure stable supplies of products in the required volumes. Exported goods must also comply with phytosanitary requirements.
For supplies of fresh fruits and vegetables, an additional requirement is ensuring an uninterrupted cold chain. Its absence can lead to product spoilage and a decline in quality during long-distance transportation.
A list of local producers and exporters ready to cooperate with Costco is currently being compiled.
Companies that meet the established requirements and are interested in entering the US market can fill out a special questionnaire.
