Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — New car sales in Kazakhstan increased by 6.3% in August 2026 compared with August last year.
Official dealers sold 19,100 new passenger and commercial vehicles, compared with 18,000 a year earlier, the Kazakhstan Automobile Union said.
Growth in Sales Continues
Hyundai was the best-selling automotive brand in August, with dealers selling 3,604 vehicles, up 1.3% from a year earlier. Chevrolet ranked second with 2,764 vehicles sold, up 5.9%.
Changan moved into third place. Sales of the brand’s vehicles more than doubled to 2,217 units, 103.2% higher than in August 2025.
Kia dropped to fourth place. Dealers sold 1,556 vehicles, down 25.9% from the previous year.
Chery rounded out the top five with 1,129 vehicles sold, up 34.4%.
The top 10 also included Toyota with 1,121 vehicles sold, up 8%; Haval with 897 (+4.9%); Jetour with 865 (-6.8%); Geely with 815 (-9.4%); and BYD with 620 (+41.6%). MG sales increased by 132.8%, although the brand’s sales totaled 142 vehicles in absolute terms.
Cobalt Tops Model Ranking Again
In August, the Chevrolet Cobalt once again became the best-selling model in Kazakhstan. Dealers sold 2,603 vehicles. Hyundai Tucson ranked second with 1,643 vehicles, while Changan CS35 MAX came third with 1,186 units.
Hyundai Mufasa ranked fourth with 708 vehicles sold. Hyundai Elantra rounded out the top five with 651 vehicles sold.
The 10 most in-demand models also included Kia Sportage with 646 vehicles, Haval Jolion with 588, Toyota Camry with 583, Changan CS55 Plus with 453 and Kia Cerato with 350.
Hyundai Maintains Year-to-Date Lead
In January–August 2026, 146,400 new vehicles were sold in Kazakhstan, 2.3% more than in the same period of 2025.
Hyundai retained the top position among brands. At the same time, the company’s sales fell by 21.8% to 24,563 vehicles.
Chevrolet ranked second with 23,205 vehicles sold, up 16.2%, while Kia ranked third with 16,380 vehicles, up 5.1%.
Changan moved into fourth place, with sales reaching 14,144 vehicles, an increase of 102.1% year on year.
Chery rounded out the top five with 10,815 vehicles sold, up 16.4%.
BYD recorded notable growth. In the first eight months of the year, dealers sold 3,208 electric and hybrid vehicles of the brand, 133.3% more than a year earlier.
Financing Affects Demand
Anar Makasheva, president of the Kazakhstan Automobile Union, noted that further renewal of the vehicle fleet largely depends on the availability of financing.
According to her, higher auto loan interest rates increase the financial burden on buyers and may restrain demand.
The Kazakhstan Automobile Union considers it important to develop manufacturer and dealer programs, trade-in, leasing and other instruments that allow owners to replace old vehicles with new ones.
