Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Energy storage systems are planned to be deployed across all regions of Uzbekistan, taking into account the electricity consumption patterns of major industrial enterprises, Energy Minister Sherzod Khojaev said in an interview with O’zbekiston 24 television channel.
According to the minister, a meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed investment projects in the power sector and issues arising during their implementation. Solar and wind generation, the development of high-voltage networks and the deployment of energy storage systems were identified as priority areas.
The sector also plans to change the mechanism for implementing new investment projects. They are expected to be launched under competitive conditions, in line with a predetermined investment plan and following a competitive selection process.
At the same time, instructions were given to establish a unified procedure for allocating land plots, obtaining permits and completing the necessary documents for energy projects. Separate roadmaps are to be prepared for each year through 2035, with responsible officials assigned to each measure.
The main objective is to increase electricity generation at a pace corresponding to GDP growth in order to meet the needs of the population and the economy.
A significant part of the plans is focused on expanding renewable energy. By 2030, the installed capacity of wind power plants is expected to reach 12,000 MW. New projects are planned in Karakalpakstan and the Navoi, Bukhara, Jizzakh and Samarkand regions.
Solar power capacity is also planned to reach at least 7,000 MW by the same year. The Ministry of Energy has been instructed to accelerate negotiations with investors and take measures on projects that are behind schedule.
The issue of electricity storage was also considered separately. Khojaev said storage systems should be established in all regions of the country, with their parameters and operating modes adapted to the needs of major industrial consumers. The development of this infrastructure is also being considered in the context of ensuring energy security.
Investor selection will be conducted exclusively through transparent competitive procedures. When investment plans are prepared, proposals and requests from electricity consumers are expected to be taken into account.
