Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the use of Xinjiang technology for growing cotton at Agrocluster Oltinkul on 23 September. The new method can approximately double cotton yields from the traditional 30–35 centners per hectare to 60–70 centners per hectare, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan reported.
The development of modern agricultural technologies, improving production efficiency and introducing scientific advances are among the priorities in the sector. A presidential resolution dated 9 December 2025 provided the legal basis for expanding measures to increase cotton and grain yields.
Agrocluster Oltinkul has a total cultivated area of 850 hectares. The Xinjiang method is being used on 23 hectares of cotton fields.
Under the technology, cotton seeds are sown in two rows under plastic film. This method helps maintain stable soil moisture and temperature, allowing seeds to germinate earlier and more evenly.
Combined with drip irrigation and a fertilization system, the technology delivers water and nutrients directly to plant roots. This reduces resource consumption, with water savings reaching 40% and fertilizer savings nearly 30%.
The technology also accelerates harvesting. Due to the favorable microclimate under the film, cotton ripens 10–15 days earlier than on fields where traditional cultivation methods are used.
A significant portion of agricultural operations at the enterprise is carried out using agricultural drones. This reduces the need for specialized machinery and helps lower fuel consumption.
The head of state was briefed on the results of the project, its economic efficiency and plans to further expand the use of Xinjiang technology in cotton production.
