Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan is gradually implementing the National Framework for Climate Services with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Green Climate Fund.
An action plan for implementing the framework and a business model for climate services provided by Uzhydromet have been developed and discussed with users of climate information, UNDP in Uzbekistan said.
According to a UNDP blog post by Khusan Tursunov, head of the hydrometeorological support department at Uzhydromet, and Alexander Merkushkin, a climate risk expert with UNDP’s project to modernise early warning systems, the next steps are to approve the action plan and begin its implementation.
The plan is designed to cover a period of up to four years.
The authors noted that hydrometeorological information is increasingly needed not only by specialists in the field but also by government agencies, insurance companies, the private sector and the public. They cited data on requests received by Uzhydromet to illustrate this growing demand.
In 2025, Uzhydromet received 48 requests from insurance companies, 19 from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 12 from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and 132 from other organisations.
During the first half of 2026, insurance companies submitted 68 requests, exceeding the total number received from them throughout the previous year. Uzhydromet also received four requests from the Ministry of Emergency Situations and 74 from other organisations during the same period.
The National Framework for Climate Services is an initiative of the World Meteorological Organization aimed at developing national climate services systems.
