Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has proposed tasking the CIS Council of Ministers of Internal Affairs with developing a package of measures to establish a Joint CIS Contact Centre as soon as possible.
The centre would enable a rapid response to cross-border cybercrime and fraud schemes. Mirziyoyev made the proposal on 9 October at a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State in Awaza, Turkmenistan, according to the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.
Mirziyoyev described cybercrime as a problem growing rapidly in scale worldwide. He said fraud involving information technology was already causing serious harm to individuals and businesses and creating risks for the stable operation of financial systems across the Commonwealth.
The president singled out cybercrime as one of the contemporary challenges facing CIS countries. He noted that the world was undergoing profound changes and stressed that strengthening trust and coordinating positions more frequently were particularly important under these circumstances.
Uzbekistan will assume the CIS chairmanship next year. Mirziyoyev said the country was committed to close cooperation to achieve tangible results that citizens would feel.
The next meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State is planned to take place in Bukhara.
