Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The name “Samarkand Bread” has received legal protection as a trademark in Uzbekistan, the country’s Ministry of Justice said.
The name was previously registered as a geographical indication in February 2025.
According to the ministry, the trademark registration is intended to preserve the distinctive characteristics of traditional Samarkand bread, protect the region’s gastronomic heritage and strengthen the product’s market position.
Securing legal protection in both forms — as a geographical indication and a trademark — creates additional opportunities to protect national brands and realise their economic potential, the ministry said.
Under Uzbekistan’s Law “On Trademarks, Service Marks and Appellations of Origin of Goods,” a trademark registration certificate is valid for 10 years.
