Uzbekistan cut cotton-fiber production by 11.6% in Jan-Nov

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan decreased production of cotton-fiber by 11.6% year-on-year in January-November 2009 to 933,500 tonnes.

Production of cotton-fiber at the ginneries of Uzkhlopkoprom (Uzbek Cotton Industry) Association fell by 11.5% to 931,400 tonnes. Production of cotton-fiber at the enterprises with foreign investments dropped twice to 2,142 tonnes.

The Government of Uzbekistan plans to produce 1 million tonnes of cotton-fiber in this season. At the same time, the volume of cotton-fiber exports will decrease from 880,000 tonnes in 2007/08 season to 750,000-800,000 tonnes. Uzbekistan plans to increase domestic processing of cotton-fiber and cut export.
