Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan is digitalizing the regulation of its jewelry industry, including licensing, permits and public services related to precious metals and gemstones, the State Assay Control Inspectorate said.
A press conference organized by the inspectorate under the Ministry of Economy and Finance on 11 September focused on regulation of the jewelry sector, public services and oversight of activities involving precious metals and gemstones.
The event highlighted ongoing reforms, results achieved and the industry’s priorities. Officials noted that demand for services to determine the fineness of jewelry and apply the state assay hallmark has been steadily increasing in recent years.
Licensing and permit procedures for activities involving precious metals and gemstones have been fully transferred to digital platforms. Public services are provided electronically without human involvement.
As of 1 September 2026, Uzbekistan had 2,911 entities engaged in activities involving precious metals and gemstones.
The press conference also focused on ensuring compliance with the law, preventing violations and combating corruption, including everyday corruption. The inspectorate said applications from individuals and legal entities are reviewed comprehensively and that implementation discipline is monitored.
As part of preventive efforts, 1,500 activities were conducted in 2024, followed by 1,679 in 2025 and 1,169 during the reporting period in 2026. Regional authorities hold open dialogues with entrepreneurs, as well as seminars and awareness-raising events on requirements under current legislation.
The digitalization of licensing procedures is continuing, alongside the introduction of video surveillance systems for the provision of public services and the use of modern technical equipment in inspections.
