Uzbekistan and Tajikistan to Expand Cooperation in Pharmaceuticals
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Tajikistan have agreed to expand cooperation in the pharmaceutical industry, including production cooperation, localization of medicines and medical equipment, technology transfer, and joint investment projects, according to the Agency for Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry.
The agreement was reached on 24 August 2026 in Tashkent during the Uzbekistan–Tajikistan pharmaceutical business forum. As part of the event, Abdulla Azizov, Director of the Agency for Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry, met with a Tajik delegation headed by Yusufi Salomuddin, First Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population.
The forum brought together representatives from Tajikistan's Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population, the State Supervision Service and its Sughd regional department, the state unitary enterprise "Expertise and Testing of Pharmaceutical and Medical Products," and pharmaceutical enterprises from both nations.
Participants reviewed the current state of the pharmaceutical sector in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, exploring joint operational capabilities and prospective areas of collaboration. Discussions centered on expanding production cooperation, increasing pharmaceutical export volumes, and implementing joint investment projects.
The Tajik delegation visited the BioPharma City pharmaceutical cluster to inspect manufacturing capacities, infrastructure, and localization opportunities, while also receiving an update on the construction and educational plans for the Pharmaceutical Technical University.
The forum featured B2B meetings between Uzbek pharmaceutical manufacturers and Tajik companies aimed at facilitating the entry of Uzbek products into Tajikistan's market, broadening bilateral trade, transferring technology, and setting up joint manufacturing units. A demonstration of medicines and medical equipment produced in Uzbekistan was also organized for attendees.
