Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The first and second stages of the environmental impact assessment for the Sea Breeze project have been completed, with the relevant conclusions from the state environmental review issued.
According to a statement on the project’s progress, environmental procedures are being carried out successively and in stages in accordance with the requirements established by law.
Information on the procedures conducted, submitted materials, comments and proposals received, as well as relevant explanations, is made publicly available. This is intended to ensure transparency in the project’s environmental oversight and public participation at key stages of its implementation.
The first stage of the environmental impact assessment provides for a baseline environmental assessment before the implementation of the main project decisions. It examines the potential impact of the facility on air, water and land resources, green areas, biodiversity, waste generation and engineering infrastructure.
Possible environmental risks and measures to reduce them are also assessed, while public proposals and comments are taken into account.
The second stage involves a more detailed examination of the project decisions. At this stage, the parameters and scale of the potential impact are clarified, along with environmental protection and compensatory measures, engineering solutions, requirements for construction works, waste management, water use and landscaping.
Thus, Sea Breeze’s environmental oversight provides for several successive stages of control, during which project decisions are reviewed and refined as they are developed and implemented.
Following completion of construction, a final stage of environmental assessment is envisaged. It is conducted before the facility is commissioned and allows for verification of the actual implementation of environmental protection measures, compliance with environmental requirements and conformity of the completed facility with the agreed environmental conditions.
In addition to state control, the project is accompanied by public environmental monitoring.
Members of the Public Council visit the project site, review the progress of construction works and check compliance with environmental requirements and the implementation of the planned environmental protection measures.
