Mirziyoyev, Kavelashvili discuss cooperation development
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Within the framework of the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Georgia, negotiations were held with the President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili at the Orbeliani Palace in Tbilisi.
The heads of state discussed prospects for further expanding Uzbek-Georgian cooperation. Shavkat Mirziyoyev thanked the Georgian side for the warm welcome and noted that the current state visit is the first in the last 23 years.
During the talks, the sides highlighted the intensification of contacts between the parliaments, governments, and business communities of the two countries. By the end of last year, the volume of mutual trade reached US$270 million. The number of joint ventures and projects continues to grow. Georgia's first digital bank, TBC, operates in Uzbekistan, direct flights are operating between Tashkent, Tbilisi, and Batumi, and Georgian Culture Days were held in the capital of Uzbekistan in March.
The parties paid special attention to increasing mutual trade, particularly through more efficient utilization of the potential of the Poti and Batumi ports.
Opportunities for developing cooperation in pharmaceuticals, the chemical industry, agriculture, transport, energy, digital technologies, and tourism were also reviewed.
The leaders of the two countries emphasized the importance of expanding interregional cooperation to develop business, tourism, and humanitarian exchanges.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the President of Uzbekistan invited Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili to pay an official visit to Uzbekistan.
