Tashkent Designates 350-Year-Old Mulberry Tree Natural Monument
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A 350-year-old white mulberry tree growing in Tashkent's Blue Domes Park has been officially declared a state natural monument, UzDaily.uz reported, citing the press service of the Tashkent City Kengash of People's Deputies.
Deputies of the Tashkent City Kengash approved the decision on 24 June following a proposal submitted in spring 2026 by the Tashkent City Department of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change. The municipal council noted that assigning protected status to the Morus alba specimen aims to preserve the tree as part of the capital's natural, historical, and cultural heritage.
Deputies, representatives of the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan, and specialists from the municipal ecology department conducted an on-site inspection to evaluate the tree's condition and determine necessary maintenance and protection measures.
Under the approved preservation plan, authorities will install a protective fence around the mulberry tree along with an information plaque in three languages detailing its age, species, and protected status. The Tashkent City Kengash stated that these measures are intended to ensure the monument's preservation while raising public awareness regarding the protection of the capital's natural heritage.
