Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbek FIFA referee Ilgiz Tantashev will not receive any assignments for the remaining matches of the 2026 World Cup. However, official disciplinary measures will not be taken against the referee, according to the French publication RMC Sport.
According to the publication, this decision followed the high-profile round of 16 match between Paraguay and France, where the refereeing caused widespread discussion. A number of foreign media outlets criticized Tantashev's performance.
As noted by RMC Sport, FIFA decided against applying official disciplinary sanctions to the Uzbek referee. Instead, he will not be appointed to any remaining matches of the world championship, which effectively brings an end to his work at the tournament.
