Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s national team won a bronze medal at the 3rd Paralympic Chess Olympiad, which is being held in Samarkand. Uzbekistan-1 defeated Israel 2.5-1.5 in the decisive seventh round and finished the tournament in third place with 11 points.
The competition features 41 teams and 164 leading chess players from 36 countries. Uzbekistan is represented by three teams at the tournament.
Poland won the Paralympic Chess Olympiad, while Cuba finished second. Uzbekistan ended the tournament with 11 points and claimed a bronze medal at the Paralympic Chess Olympiad for the first time in its history.
The current Paralympic Chess Olympiad in Samarkand has also set records for the number of participating teams and athletes.
