Uzbekistan to Launch Online Pharmaceutical Sales
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan plans to introduce a system for the online sale of medicines through e-commerce marketplaces. Relevant proposals are expected to be developed by the National Agency for перспективные projects together with the Ministry of Health.
The initiative is part of a broader package of measures to develop electronic commerce approved by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The policy framework aims to expand digital trade and establish a modern online market infrastructure, including new mechanisms for interaction between pharmacies and consumers.
According to the assigned tasks, the relevant agencies must submit proposals by mid-July on how to organize online pharmaceutical sales within pharmacy networks. Special emphasis is placed on a system in which each pharmacy is equipped with a designated pickup point for orders placed via marketplaces.
Separate provisions are being developed for courier services in the pharmaceutical sector. These include a proposed ban on opening medicine packaging during delivery and mandatory use of thermal containers for transporting medicines that require controlled temperature conditions.
In parallel, e-commerce reforms will expand bonded warehouse infrastructure and introduce new taxation rules for imported goods sold through digital platforms.
Earlier, it was outlined that by 2030 the volume of online trade in the country is expected to reach 30 trillion soums, alongside the creation of more than 7,500 jobs and investment projects worth around US$300 million.
The development of online pharmaceutical sales is therefore becoming part of a broader national strategy to digitalize the economy and expand the e-commerce market in Uzbekistan.
