Uzbekistan to hold tenders of uranium fields in 2010

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan is planning to hold open auctions to develop seven uranium deposits, a senior Uzbek official said in Tashkent on 10 September.

Speaking at UzGeoInvest 2009 conference, Nariman Mavlyanov, chairman of the State Committee on Geology and Mineral Resources of Uzbekistan, said the tenders will be announced in March 2009.

He said currently the Uzbek authorities are developing necessary documents to hold auctions. Any foreign company will be able to participate tender, he said.

Uzbekistan is one of the largest uranium exporters in Uzbekistan. Aggregate uranium reserves in Uzbekistan estimated at 130,000 tonnes. Uzbekistan attracted Japan and South Korea to develop uranium fields in its territory.
