Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Representatives of the National Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Ecology and Climate Change, along with the Center for State Environmental Expertise, are taking part in a specialized seminar held in Seoul from April 13 to 17.

The event is being organized under a memorandum of understanding between the Center for State Environmental Expertise and the Korea Environmental Institute. The parties have maintained active cooperation since November 2023.

According to the Director General of the Center for State Environmental Expertise, Gayrat Mukhamedov, cooperation with Korean partners is contributing to the introduction of international standards into Uzbekistan’s environmental assessment system and is creating additional opportunities to accelerate the sector’s digital transformation.

During the seminar, participants are studying South Korea’s advanced experience in implementing the Environmental Impact Assessment Information System (EIASS), including its development, modernization, and expansion of functionality. Special attention is being paid to innovative approaches in digital environmental assessment, the use of artificial intelligence technologies, and satellite data for environmental monitoring.

The program also includes familiarization with South Korea’s practices in designing and developing green urban spaces, including parks and gardens.

It is noted that participation in the seminar is directly linked to ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan aimed at digitizing the environmental assessment system. Studying Korea’s experience is expected to support the introduction of advanced solutions in the creation of a national digital platform for environmental impact assessment.

The visit is also expected to include discussions on new joint projects and the expansion of bilateral cooperation.

The development of cooperation between the Center for State Environmental Expertise and the Korea Environmental Institute is described as an important element of Uzbekistan’s state policy aimed at strengthening international cooperation and improving environmental governance based on modern standards.
