Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Senate of the Oliy Majlis approved at its 20th plenary session a law on the ratification of the Agreement between the Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on the Anti-Drug Centre of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, signed in Tianjin on 1 September 2025.

The agreement provides for the establishment of a permanent SCO body — the Anti-Drug Centre. Dushanbe, Tajikistan, has been designated as its location.

The Centre’s main task will be to coordinate cooperation among the competent authorities of SCO member states in combating the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and their precursors.

As part of its activities, the Centre will also participate in planning joint operational and preventive measures aimed at suppressing the activities of transnational organised criminal groups. Another area of work will be monitoring and analysing the drug situation in the region.

During the review of the document, senators highlighted the importance of the agreement for further developing international cooperation in combating drug addiction and crimes related to illicit drug trafficking.

In addition, work under the new mechanism will allow countries to exchange experience and improve joint approaches to countering drug-related threats.

Senators stressed that implementation of the agreement is aimed at ensuring the country’s security and protecting public health.

Following the discussion, the law was approved by the senators.
