Uzbekistan, Japan Expand Financial Cooperation Talks
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 16 April, on the sidelines of the 2026 Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, a meeting was held between Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Jamshid Kuchkarov and Japan’s Minister of Finance Satsuki Katayama.
During the talks, the sides discussed key areas of financial and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Japan, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration in ensuring macroeconomic stability, supporting economic reforms, and promoting sustainable medium-term growth.
Special attention was paid to the introduction of modern approaches to public financial management, including the digitalization of budget processes, improved expenditure control, and the automation of payment systems using Japanese experience.
The parties also reviewed prospects for improving treasury operations, managing public financial flows, and developing liquidity forecasting tools.
Priorities included the development of high-tech sectors such as microelectronics and semiconductor manufacturing, as well as the expansion of scientific research and innovation cooperation.
In addition, the discussions covered green economy development, environmental sustainability, greenhouse gas reduction efforts, and broader cooperation in trade, investment, industry, energy, transport, and agriculture.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening cooperation and expanding bilateral economic ties.
