Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Italy plan to expand cooperation on labour migration, with greater attention to the training and employment of qualified specialists. The plans were discussed at a meeting between Migration Agency Director Muhsinjoja Abdurakhmonov and Italian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Guido De Sanctis.
The sides discussed further development of cooperation, including in the medical sector. By the end of the year, about 20 qualified nurses are expected to be trained for subsequent employment in Milan.
Around 30 doctors from Uzbekistan are currently studying Italian as part of preparations for possible employment in Italy. According to the Migration Agency, the regions of Lombardy, Piedmont and Sardinia have expressed interest in recruiting medical specialists from Uzbekistan.
Cooperation between the two countries already includes the training of Uzbek specialists and organised employment for citizens. Last year, 10 medical specialists from Uzbekistan underwent professional development training in Italy before returning home.
Seasonal employment remains another area of cooperation. Recently, 38 citizens of Uzbekistan from the Namangan region arrived in the province of Ferrara to work in agriculture.
Cooperation with Italy is therefore gradually covering both seasonal employment and skilled labour migration, particularly in the medical sector.
The Migration Agency has already opened registration for people wishing to participate in a training programme for qualified nurses preparing to work in Italy.
