Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Senate of the Oliy Majlis approved at its 20th plenary session a law on the ratification of the Treaty on Eternal Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan and the People’s Republic of China, signed in Astana on 17 June 2025.

The document establishes the legal framework for long-term cooperation between the Central Asian states and China and became the first multilateral international treaty concluded in the Central Asia-China format.

The treaty provides for the development of a strategic partnership based on the principles of sovereign equality, territorial integrity, non-interference in internal affairs, rejection of the use of force and the peaceful settlement of disputes.

Certain provisions of the document are aimed at expanding political dialogue and developing practical cooperation. These include trade, economic and investment ties, transport and communications infrastructure, energy, industrial cooperation, digital technologies, green development and humanitarian cooperation.

Ratification of the treaty creates additional opportunities to implement a number of projects related to transport and logistics infrastructure. These include the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, the development of transport corridors and the modernisation of logistics facilities.

The document also provides for the development of the Electronic Silk Road trading platform.

During the review, senators highlighted the importance of the treaty for Uzbekistan’s participation in regional cooperation processes with China. Expected areas include attracting investment, increasing export and transit potential, strengthening regional security, and developing friendship and mutual understanding among peoples.

Following the review, the law was approved by the senators.
