Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan is expanding measures to protect atmospheric air and reduce pollution levels as part of the national Clean Air project.

The work was discussed at a press conference at the Content Preparation Center for Mass Media under the Presidential Administration. Representatives of the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change, the Eco-Police, the Research Hydrometeorological Institute and other organizations within the environmental system attended the event.

According to the Ecology Committee, 459 automatic monitoring stations have been installed at Category I and II industrial enterprises. An inventory of 554 enterprises has been conducted in Tashkent, while 186 dust and gas treatment units have been modernized at 67 enterprises.

Motor vehicles are another focus of environmental controls. More than 280,000 vehicles have undergone environmental inspections. As a result, according to the agency, emissions of 2.52 thousand tonnes of harmful substances have been prevented. More than 2.2 million environmental stickers have also been issued across the country.

As part of Car-Free Day, average daily emissions are reduced by nearly 50 tonnes.

In Tashkent, automatic sampling for PM2.5 concentrations has been organized at 10 locations. An online Eco-Control platform has also been launched.

Environmental requirements also apply to the construction sector. Facilities more than 12 meters high or with an area exceeding 500 square meters are required to have greenery covering at least 30% of their territory.

A green belt is being created across 330 hectares in the Tashkent and Syrdarya regions. Another project involves establishing a 33-km-long Green Corridor along the Small Ring Road.

According to the data presented, the average concentration of fine particulate matter, or PM2.5, in Tashkent fell by 25% from 1 January to 21 September 2026 compared with the same period in 2025.

Under the national air quality standard, the number of days with good air quality increased from 81 to 147. In addition, air quality in the capital remained at a good level for 30 consecutive days from 18 April to 17 May.

At the press conference, Committee representatives answered journalists' questions about previous inspections, measures to reduce vehicle emissions, liability for the absence or improper use of automatic monitoring stations, as well as current and planned environmental measures.

By the end of 2026, the Ecology Committee plans to reduce pollutant and transport emissions by 2%, cut the number of days with PM2.5 levels exceeding the standard by 7%, equip 40% of construction sites with dust suppression and monitoring systems, and modernize 30% of industrial enterprises.
