Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s president has transferred 17 higher education institutions to the system of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation under a resolution dated 2 October.
The institutions include 14 universities and institutes previously under the Ministry of Preschool and School Education and three higher education institutions under the Agency for Specialised Educational Institutions.
The institutions transferred from the Ministry of Preschool and School Education are Andijan, Bukhara, Gulistan, Kattakurgan, Namangan, Nukus, Samarkand, Termez, Urgench and Shakhrisabz state pedagogical institutes; Jizzakh and Chirchik state pedagogical universities; the Uzbek National Pedagogical University; and Puchon University in Tashkent.
The New Uzbekistan University, Al-Khwarizmi University and Ishakhan Ibrat Namangan State Institute of Foreign Languages were transferred from the Agency for Specialised Educational Institutions to the ministry.
Under the same resolution, the Uzbek National Pedagogical University was renamed the Nizami Ganjavi Uzbek National Pedagogical University.
Along with the universities, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation was also given the functions of the Ministry of Preschool and School Education in the field of teacher training.
The ministry will now pursue a unified policy for training teachers with higher education based on a common conceptual approach and determine the main areas for the development of teacher education.
In addition, the ministry will be responsible for ensuring continuity and lifelong development of teacher education, introducing advanced pedagogical and information technologies into the educational process, developing research and innovation in pedagogy, and improving the management system of universities that train teaching staff.
