Tashkent plans to modernize Yangiabad market while preserving its format

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Tashkent authorities are developing a concept to modernize Yangiabad market, with plans to improve the site and conditions for traders and visitors while preserving its existing format and specialization, the Tashkent hokimiyat said.

The city authorities said the modernization of Yangiabad would not involve changing its character or turning it into a different type of market. The main objective is to create a more convenient, safe and comfortable environment for people who work at and visit the market.

The planned improvements include landscaping the territory, ensuring proper sanitary conditions and necessary safety measures, upgrading infrastructure, and creating convenient pedestrian routes and parking areas.

Traders currently operating at Yangiabad will retain their stalls. The market's specialization and recognizable atmosphere are also planned to be preserved.

The concept is being developed by the city together with designers. The hokimiyat said it is important to take into account the views of people for whom the market has practical significance when preparing the project.

Once the concept is prepared, it will be submitted for public discussion. Residents will be able to review the proposed changes, ask questions, express their views and submit suggestions.

Tashkent authorities said the modernization should combine improvements to urban infrastructure with preservation of Yangiabad's character and atmosphere.
