Uzbekistan to Play Iran in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The national football teams of Uzbekistan and Iran will hold a match during the extended FIFA international window from 21 September to 6 October 2026, expected to take place in Tashkent, according to President of the Football Federation of Iran Mehdi Taj.
According to Taj, the Iranian national team plans to play three matches during the upcoming international window. In addition to the match against Uzbekistan, a game against Russia has been confirmed.
"From 21 September to 6 October, we will have a FIFA window. As part of this window, we will play three matches. At present, games with Uzbekistan and Russia are confirmed. All three matches will take place in three different countries," Taj stated.
He also reported that during the subsequent FIFA window, the Iranian national team will travel to Iraq to participate in a tournament.
Earlier, Uzbekistan national team head coach Fabio Cannavaro stated that negotiations regarding holding a match with Iran were ongoing.
The FIFA international window from 21 September to 6 October 2026 will mark the first extended three-week window in the new national team calendar, allowing national teams to play up to four matches.
Both Iran and Uzbekistan also participated in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
