Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Vanuatu have established diplomatic relations. A Joint Communiqué was signed by representatives of the two countries at the United Nations in New York on 22 September, Diyor News Agency reported.
The document was signed on behalf of the governments of Uzbekistan and Vanuatu by Uzbekistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ulugbek Lapasov and Vanuatu’s head of mission to the UN Odo Tevi.
The sides expressed interest in developing cooperation within international organizations, including the United Nations and its specialized agencies.
The establishment of diplomatic relations marks another step in Uzbekistan’s efforts to expand its foreign policy and diplomatic ties with countries in the Pacific region.
Vanuatu is an island state in Melanesia, located on 83 islands of the New Hebrides archipelago.
Vanuatu has thus become the 169th country with which Uzbekistan has established diplomatic relations.
