Tashkent plans Chinese international technical college
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Tashkent plans to establish a multidisciplinary Chinese International Technical College in cooperation with China Oriental Education Holdings Limited. A draft Cabinet of Ministers resolution providing for the establishment of the institution has been published for public discussion.
The college is proposed to be established on the premises of the Republican College of Television and Radio in Bektemir district. The building is planned to be provided for free targeted use for 20 years.
Under the draft document, China Oriental Education Holdings will invest US$5.1 million in foreign direct investment to establish the college. The institution will operate as a non-state organization. Its proposed founders are China Oriental Education Holdings and the Agency for Vocational Education under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation.
Education is planned on a fee-based contract basis in full-time, evening and dual formats. The college will train mid-level specialists and organize practical training for students based on orders from major Chinese automakers, including BYD, Chery and JAC.
Graduates are planned to receive vocational education diplomas recognized in Uzbekistan, as well as international certificates.
As part of the investment project, China Oriental Education Holdings will reconstruct existing buildings, build new workshops and equip them with modern equipment. Specialists from Uzbekistan and other countries are planned to be recruited as teachers. The company will also organize professional development programmes for local teachers in China.
The project also provides for an end to admissions to the Republican College of Television and Radio from the 2027–2028 academic year. Students already enrolled by that time will be able to complete their education under the existing programmes.
The draft Cabinet of Ministers resolution has not yet been adopted. Public discussion of the document will continue until 1 September 2026.
