Iran Sets Conditions for US to Reopen Strait of Hormuz

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Iran has conveyed conditions to the United States through intermediaries that must be met to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, according to Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Press TV reported.

According to Rezaei, Tehran demands that Washington end the war, return Iran's frozen assets, and cease military actions across the region, including in Lebanon and Gaza.

The Secretary of the Security Council stated that the strait will not be reopened until the United States changes its policy and accepts Tehran's proposals.

Earlier, the National Security Commission of the Iranian Parliament approved a new bill regulating the passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. In particular, the document includes a ban on the passage of US and Israeli ships.

According to information in the report, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum in mid-June aimed at launching a process toward a peace agreement. However, three weeks later, the parties resumed escalating the conflict.

In early August 2026, Donald Trump announced the cancellation of a planned wave of strikes on Iran in anticipation of an expected deal.

Trump also stated that the Strait of Hormuz should be opened in the near future and threatened to resume strikes if that condition was not met.
