Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Following the death of a four-year-old girl in Kashkadarya region, the family’s second child has been placed in the care of close relatives, the National Agency for Social Protection under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan said.

The decision was made to ensure the child’s safety, rights and legitimate interests.

Social protection specialists are assessing the child’s condition and existing risk factors. The child is also undergoing a medical examination and receiving the necessary psychological assistance.

Due to the change of residence, measures will be taken to ensure continuity of education. In addition, a social case has been opened for the child, on the basis of which an individual plan for the provision of social services is being developed.

On 26 September, a four-year-old girl in Kasbi district suffered a severe head injury during a conflict between her stepmother and husband. According to the Children’s Ombudsman, the stepmother struck the child, who died the same day.

The district internal affairs department opened a criminal case over intentional harm to health resulting in death. The suspect was detained.

On 30 September, the Kashkadarya Regional Prosecutor’s Office reclassified the criminal case under Article 97 of the Criminal Code as “intentional murder.” The pre-trial investigation was transferred to the regional prosecutor’s office.
