Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov held a telephone conversation with South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Ozzy Lamola on 1 October, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.

The two sides discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral relations, noting positive momentum in cooperation between Uzbekistan and South Africa.

During the conversation, the ministers considered concrete steps to intensify political dialogue, expand trade and investment cooperation and advance joint projects.

Particular attention was paid to cooperation within the Non-Aligned Movement. Uzbekistan expressed interest in active participation by South Africa in events to be held during the country’s chairmanship of the Movement in 2027–2030.

The ministers also discussed launching an Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation and further improving the legal framework governing bilateral relations.

Following the telephone conversation, the sides agreed to hold an in-person meeting in the near future and jointly advance the initiatives agreed during the talks.
