Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Russia’s Saratov Region and Uzbekistan plan to expand trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation, Saratov Region Governor Roman Busargin said following a meeting with Uzbekistan’s ambassador to Russia, Botirjon Asadov.
Busargin said foreign trade turnover between Saratov Region and Uzbekistan increased 2.4-fold in 2025. The region’s exports to Uzbekistan grew 2.3-fold over the year, while export volumes rose by nearly 12% in the first half of 2026.
The region’s main exports to Uzbekistan include ferrous metals, fertilisers, inorganic chemical products, and fats and oils.
Busargin said there was potential to establish new production facilities and implement joint projects across various industries. In particular, a joint venture to manufacture spare parts for diesel locomotive engines is scheduled to open in November–December 2026.
The two sides are also considering opportunities to deepen cooperation in industry, trade and agriculture.
Humanitarian cooperation remains another promising area, Busargin said. He highlighted opportunities for collaboration between major regional universities, which have experience working with foreign higher education institutions.
The meeting focused on the results of existing cooperation and prospects for further expanding ties between Saratov Region and Uzbekistan.
