Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Representatives of Uzbekistan’s government agencies studied the experience of the Republic of Korea in developing and managing special economic zones.
The study visit took place from 20 to 23 September at the initiative of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), with support from the Republic of Korea’s E-Asia and Knowledge Partnership Fund (EAKPF).
The Uzbek delegation included senior representatives of the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan.
As part of the visit, participants attended an international seminar and visited the Incheon Free Economic Zone and other special economic zones. The delegation reviewed Korean approaches to their development, operations and management.
Particular attention was paid to modernising economic zones and their role in regional development.
During meetings with representatives of South Korean government agencies and members of the academic community, the sides also discussed improving public financial management and developing Uzbekistan’s institutional capacity.
The study visit enabled Uzbek government officials to familiarise themselves with South Korea’s practical approaches to managing special economic zones and related areas of public administration.
