Nodirbek Abdusattorov Wins Silver at Super Rapid & Blitz Croatia 2026
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbek grandmaster Nodirbek Abdusattorov won the silver medal at the prestigious Super Rapid and Blitz Croatia tournament, the third leg of the 2026 Grand Chess Tour, which took place from 1 to 5 July in Zagreb.
The competition brought together ten of the world's strongest grandmasters, with Abdusattorov participating as a wildcard and being the sole representative of Uzbekistan at the elite event.
Following the rapid and blitz sections, the Uzbek chess prodigy scored 23.5 points, tying for first place with French grandmaster Alireza Firouzja after staging a remarkable comeback on the final day to eliminate Firouzja's initial three-point lead.
The tournament champion had to be decided through a playoff. After the first two tie-break games ended in a 1-1 deadlock, the opponents faced off in a decisive Armageddon game. Firouzja, holding the black pieces with draw odds, successfully managed his time under pressure to secure the draw, subsequently claiming the tournament title.
Another French representative, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, finished the tournament in third place, sharing the position with India's Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa.
For his impressive second-place finish, Nodirbek Abdusattorov was awarded US$42,500 in prize money.
