Islam Karimov congratulates Nicolae Timofty

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov has congratulated Nicolae Timofty on his election as President of the Republic of Moldova.

According to the reports, Moldova's parliament on Friday elected Nicolae Timofti as the country's president.

Timofti was elected by 62 votes -- one more than the 61 required for election in the 101-seat chamber.

Moldova had been without president since 2009. Four attempts to elect president was failed as the candidates cannot collect at least 61 votes.
