Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Canada secured a commanding 6-0 victory over Qatar in their second Group B match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The match was played in Vancouver on home soil for Canada.
Jonathan David was the standout performer, scoring a hat-trick in the 29th, 45+3 and 90+2 minutes. Kyle Larin opened the scoring in the 16th minute, while Nathan Saliba added another goal in the 64th minute. Qatar defender Mohammad Al-Mannai also scored an own goal in the 75th minute.
The match was marked by a physical contest, with Qatar finishing the game with nine players. Homam Al-Amin was sent off in the 33rd minute, followed by Assim Modibo in the 53rd minute. The latter’s foul resulted in a serious leg injury to Canada midfielder Ismaël Koné, who was carried off on a stretcher.
After two rounds, Canada lead Group B with four points, ahead of Switzerland on goal difference. Bosnia and Herzegovina and Qatar each have one point. In the final group matches on 24 June, Canada will face Switzerland, while Qatar will play Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The 2026 World Cup is being jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico and features 48 national teams for the first time in history. The tournament concludes on 19 July, with Argentina entering as the defending champions.
