Uzbekistan Moves to Digitise Water Management System
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan has considered and adopted in the first reading a draft law “On Amendments to the Water Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan,” aimed at further improving the water resources management system and introducing digital solutions in the sector.
It is noted that the country is carrying out consistent work to ensure the rational use of water resources, improve their accounting and monitoring, and introduce modern management mechanisms while expanding the participation of the private sector.
The draft law provides for the introduction of an automated electronic system for registering water use contracts. It is expected that this will reduce administrative procedures, minimise the influence of the human factor, and improve transparency in the delivery of public services.
The document also clarifies mechanisms for organising water management facilities and services based on outsourcing and public-private partnerships, providing for their implementation through competitive and tender procedures.
During the discussion, deputies emphasised the key importance of water resources for the country’s economic development, environmental sustainability, and public welfare, noting the importance of further digitalisation of the sector.
Following consideration, the draft law was adopted by deputies in the first reading.
