Uzbekistan to Digitally Map 50 Timurid Artifacts Abroad
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan has launched a scientific project to create high-precision 3D models and animated images of 50 Timurid-era artifacts held in foreign museums, according to the press service of the Agency for Innovative Development under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovations.
The initiative, titled "Creation of 3D Models and Animated Images of Timurid Era Artifacts Stored in Foreign Museums," is funded by the Agency for Innovative Development under the Olima Ayollar (Women Scientists) competition.
The project focuses on identifying historical items from the Timurid period located outside Uzbekistan, preparing scientific descriptions, and producing digital 3D models and animations.
Research covers museum collections in Russia, the United Kingdom, and Türkiye. Specialists have already gathered high-quality photographic material of 50 historical artifacts during field trips, which will serve as the foundation for the digital models.
"To date, a large volume of high-quality photographic material of 50 historical artifacts has been collected during working visits to museums in Russia, the United Kingdom, and Türkiye. Digital 3D models will be created based on these materials," said project leader Dilafruz Kurbanova.
She added that surviving historical images will be converted into animated content and video products, while a scientific description and annotation in the Uzbek language will be prepared for each artifact.
The initiative aims to establish a unified digital and scientific information space consolidating data on Timurid heritage preserved across different countries. The resulting 3D models will be made available to museums, educational institutions, researchers, and the general public.
The new visual and scientific content is also scheduled for publication on the website of the State Museum of the History of the Timurids.
In addition, project organizers plan to register the created digital products as intellectual property objects and use them to foster joint scientific and cultural initiatives between Uzbek and foreign institutions.
